The core of e-commerce lies in its ability to connect consumers directly with sellers, bypassing traditional brick-and-mortar stores. This transformation demands a rethinking of logistics systems, requiring them to handle larger volumes of goods with faster delivery times, greater geographic reach, and enhanced tracking capabilities (Christopher, 2016). The shift from traditional supply chains to e-commerce-driven logistics has prompted companies to innovate their warehousing, inventory management, and last-mile delivery strategies.

A crucial impact of e-commerce on logistics is the need for greater agility and flexibility in supply chains. E-commerce businesses face volatile consumer demand, with purchasing behaviors influenced by seasonal promotions, flash sales, and online discounts. This dynamic environment necessitates a responsive supply chain that can adapt quickly to changes in demand patterns (Hübner et al., 2016). Supply chains must be designed for speed and efficiency to fulfill consumer expectations, such as same-day or next-day delivery. However, optimizing last-mile delivery is not without its challenges, as it often involves balancing efficiency with environmental and cost considerations.

Traditional retail relies on centralized inventory systems, with goods typically stored in warehouses before being distributed to physical stores.   • Statement of the Problem

The study examines E-commerce on impact of logistics and supply chains management. The study is limited to the Dangote Refinery logistics and supply chain management, Lekki Trade Zone, Lagos.

 

1.8. Operational Definition of Terms

1. E-commerce: E-commerce, or electronic commerce, refers to the buying and selling of goods and services over the internet. It encompasses a wide range of online business activities for products and services, including online retail (B2C), online marketplaces, business-to-business (B2B) transactions, and consumer-to-consumer (C2C) exchanges. E-commerce has grown rapidly in recent years, fueled by advances in internet technology, digital payment systems, and consumer demand for convenience. It allows businesses to reach a global audience and offers consumers a convenient way to shop 24/7, often with a wider selection and better pricing than traditional brick-and-mortar stores.

2. Impact: In the context of logistics and supply chain management, “impact” refers to the effects or changes that a particular phenomenon, such as e-commerce, has on the processes, operations, and systems within logistics and supply chains. The impact can be both positive (e.g., increased efficiency, new business opportunities) and negative (e.g., higher operational costs, environmental challenges).
