How I spent my weekend in the Most Popular City in Nigeria.

My recent trip to Lagos, Nigeria, for a weekend was one of the most incredible times of my life. Lagos, the economic capital of Nigeria, is a fascinating and dynamic metropolis with many unique sights and experiences to offer visitors. I began my weekend on a Saturday by going to the Nike Art Gallery, which is a must-see for every visitor to Lagos. This multi-use art space in the middle of Lekki features Nigerian and African artworks with traditional handicrafts and textiles. The gallery’s colorful interior was a pleasure to behold, with its many works of art, sculptures, and handmade fabrics.

I could have spent all day looking at the artwork and reading about the historical and cultural contexts that informed each piece. After taking in the works of art at the Nike Art Gallery, my stomach was growling, so I made my way to Terra Kulture, a cultural center dedicated to showcasing and fostering Nigerian heritage and tradition. Terra Kulture provided me with an excellent opportunity to try authentic Nigerian cuisine, including jollof rice, suya, and pepper soup. The pounded yam and egusi soup was my favorite; it was a delicious blend of pounded yam and a melon seed-based broth.

My afternoon was spent at Bar Beach, one of the city’s most frequented beaches. Even though it was overcast that day, the beach was nevertheless very busy. Sunbathers, swimmers, and beach soccer players all mingled with vendors selling ice cream, soda, and t-shirts. I even got to try my hand at beach horseback riding. At first, it was terrifying, but eventually, it became thrilling. Later that night, I went to Lagos’s renowned Eko Hotel & Suites, which is located on Victoria Island. The rooms, pools, and bars at this five-star hotel are all exceptionally high-end. As the sun sank over the Atlantic Ocean, I treated myself to a superb meal at the hotel’s namesake restaurant, Sky Restaurant & Lounge.

Sunday morning, I went with some friends to the Lekki Conservation Center, a huge urban wildlife preserve. The facility is home to a wide variety of birds and animals, from monkeys to crocodiles to a few different kinds of exotic birds. We went on a canopy walk that allowed us to look down on the thriving forests and diverse animal populations below. It was an excellent approach to take in Lagos’s scenic surroundings.

After that, we visited Ikeja City Mall, a relatively new shopping center in Lagos. The mall is an excellent destination to shop, dine, and watch movies since it has a huge theater, retail stores, electronics stores, and food courts. We shopped for trinkets and shopped about for hours. We decided to spend the evening experiencing Lagos’s renowned nightlife by attending one of the city’s many clubs. We went to one of the best clubs in town, Quilox, to get down to some afrobeats and other tunes. The club was buzzing with excitement, people were laughing and talking, and drinks were flowing freely, making for a fantastic evening.

So, all in all, my weekend in Lagos was the perfect mix of culture, art, nature, cuisine, and fun. I had the chance to see the sights and experience some of what makes Lagos such a remarkable destination for tourists. Lagos is a fantastic destination for anybody interested in the arts, the outdoors, or the vibrant nightlife. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I will never forget.
