Scripture teaches that marriage is a sacred covenant that mirrors the relationship between Christ and the Church (Ephesians 5:25-33). Thus, biblical counseling emphasizes the importance of mutual respect, love, communication, and forgiveness as fundamental strategies for achieving marital oneness.

One biblical counseling strategy that promotes oneness in marriage is the practice of mutual submission, as described in Ephesians 5:21-33. 1.8. Operational Definition of Terms

1. Biblical Counseling: Biblical counseling is a form of therapy or guidance rooted in the principles and teachings found in the Bible. It involves using Scripture and Christian principles to address life’s challenges, particularly in areas such as personal struggles, relationships, and marriage. The aim is to align the individual’s or couple’s behaviors, attitudes, and decisions with biblical teachings, fostering spiritual and emotional well-being. In marriage, biblical counseling provides couples with tools to build strong, God-centered relationships, emphasizing love, forgiveness, respect, and mutual submission.
2. Strategies: In this context, strategies refer to intentional, planned actions or approaches designed to achieve specific goals. In biblical counseling, strategies are the steps or methods employed to address marital issues and promote unity and oneness in the marriage. These strategies can include communication techniques, conflict resolution, encouragement of spiritual intimacy, and other biblical principles aimed at improving the couple’s relationship and aligning it with Christian values.
3. Promote: To promote in this context means to actively encourage or support the growth, development, or establishment of something. In terms of marriage, it refers to fostering or facilitating conditions that lead to a stronger, more unified relationship. 5. Marriage: Marriage is a sacred union between two people, typically a man and a woman, that is established with the intention of creating a lifelong partnership. From a biblical perspective, marriage is a covenant ordained by God, where two individuals commit to loving and supporting each other, reflecting the divine relationship between Christ and His Church. The purpose of marriage, according to Scripture, is not only to enjoy companionship but also to grow spiritually, raise children, and serve God together, fulfilling the divine calling of oneness, love, and mutual respect.
