Project – THE IMPACT OF INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES ON TEACHING EFFECTIVENESS IN SOME SELECTED PRIMARY

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

  • BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Teaching is essentially built on the broad concept of impacting knowledge on learners teaching can be  viewed as an attempt to help the learner or someone to acquire skill attitude and also knowledge. According to Asaya and Egwali (2005) teaching may be defined as an attempt to bring desirable changes in human learning abilities and behaviour learning on the other hand can be said to be a change in behaviour which is more or less permanent in nature due to experience exposure of knowledge gained and required by the active participation of the child or the learner it is also known as acquisition of hobbies knowledge and attitude involving new ways of doing things

Kruglart (2001) thought along line when he postulated that children both in urban and rural area or community should be taught with teaching aid in order to aid teaching-learning in the schools. An ideal teaching-learning environment should be comfortable, noiseless, decorated and enriched with careful visual and audio visual instructional resources “instructional resources” is identical in meaning to instructional material” in order word, the two terms can be used interchangeably for the purpose of this topic, instructional resources may include, excursion or field trips dramatization, demonstration, display modes and exhibits film TV programmes e.g.

According to Andrew O. Urevbu (1991) sees instructional resources as a visual or audio visual material, which facilitate the assimilation of organization it enable student to have a mental picture of what they are taught and to retain the message in their head for a very long time. This is of utmost importance because their use promotes meaningful communication

  • STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The objectives of this study are;

  1. To examine the effect of teaching aid in the teaching and learning in primary schools.
  2. To examine the place of teaching aid in teaching-learning
  • To take a look at the use of teaching aid    in schools
    • OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The researcher wishes to critically examine the following:

  1. Identify the problems militating against the uses of instructional resources in the teaching and learning in a school environment.
  2. Investigate the output of teaching and learning though the use of the right instructional resources.
  • Make policy recommendation base on the finding of this research
    • RESEARCH HYPOTHESES

HYPOTHESES ONE

Ho: There is no relationship between instructional resources and effective learning

Hi:There is no relationship between instructional resources and effective learning

HYPOTHESES TWO

Ho:Lack of teaching skills is a factor that militates against use of instructional resources.

Hi:Lack of teaching skills is a factor that militates against use of instructional resources.

1.5    SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study will help all those that are involved in teaching and administration of the primary and secondary school to know the effect that militate aquarist good performance to teachers and learning in the classroom environment it will also in with the fact and figures for planning schools

Also, the study will help to educate and be beneficial to school administrator, teacher, educator e.g. on the importance of using the instructional resources to facilitate teaching-learning. This is important as it will make for good decision making, effective communication all these will enhance teachers and student performance in school

Finally, the study will help to educate teachers on the danger associated with the lack of improper use of the aids in the facilitating of teaching and learning therefore there is no doubt that the result of the finding of this study will bring to light the above significance in the present and in the future.

1.6 SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

This study is primary concerned with the impact of instructional resources on teaching effectiveness in some selected primary. This study/project work covers primary schools in Ikpoba Okha local Government Area in Edo state. The researcher encountered some constraints, which limited the scope of the study. These constraints include but are not limited to the following

  1. a) AVAILABILITY OF RESEARCH MATERIAL: The research material available to the researcher is insufficient, thereby limiting the study
  2. b) TIME: The time frame allocated to the study does not enhance wider coverage as the researcher has to combine other academic activities and examinations with the study.

1.7 DEFINITION OF TERMS

Here we shall clarify the following terms, used in this study in order to avoid misinterpretation

TEACHING:This is the transmission of attitudes skills, acknowledgment and the ability to read and write a document

LEARNING:This is a change in behaviours; which is more or less permanent in nature due to experience

TEACHING AID:These are instructional materiel use in teaching such as chat chalkboard e.g.

ATTITUDE:This is habitual way of thinking or teaching about group, person or object

TRANSMISSION:This is the passing of information, skills, data e.g. from a source to a receiver

1.8 ORGANIZATION OF THE STUDY

This research work is organized in five chapters, for easy understanding, as follows

Chapter one is concerned with the introduction, which consist of the (overview, of the study), historical background, statement of problem, objectives of the study, research hypotheses, significance of the study, scope and limitation of the study, definition of terms and historical background of the study. Chapter two highlights the theoretical framework on which the study is based, thus the review of related literature. Chapter three deals on the research design and methodology adopted in the study. Chapter four concentrate on the data collection and analysis and presentation of finding.  Chapter five gives summary, conclusion, and recommendations made of the study
