Furthermore, contemporary educational systems, which increasingly focus on academic achievement over character development, may fail to instill the ethical principles needed to navigate complex moral dilemmas in a diverse society (Carr, 2003).

1.8. Operational Definition of Terms

1. Moral Decadence: Moral decadence refers to a decline or deterioration in the ethical and moral values that guide individuals and societies. It involves a rejection or weakening of established norms, leading to behaviors that are considered immoral, unethical, or socially destructive. Examples include corruption, dishonesty, crime, selfishness, lack of empathy, and a general disregard for principles of justice, fairness, and respect for others. Moral decadence often signifies a broader societal decay, where traditional moral codes no longer hold sway, and behavior becomes more self-centered and harmful to the collective good.
