Free Essay – Is Military Rule better than Civilian Rule? Discuss
There are a number of reasons why I choose civilian authority over military power. First and foremost, civilian government guarantees that authority rests with representatives chosen by the people and answerable to them. Decisions are reached through a process of debate and consensus-building, which in a democratic system allows for a broader diversity of opinions and encourages inclusion.
In addition, rule by civilians encourages a culture of openness and responsibility. There are safeguards in place, such as the division of powers, to ensure that elected officials don’t abuse their authority. There are checks and balances in place to ensure that leaders are held responsible for their actions, which serves to reduce the likelihood of corruption and abuse of power.
On the other hand, when military commanders are in charge, they tend to consolidate their authority. Military governments typically claim to deliver efficiency and stability, but in reality they use repression and restrictions on civil freedoms to keep the peace. This can result in a decline in respect for human rights, a stifling of the press, and a restriction on free speech.
Moreover, the stability provided by civilian government lasts much longer than that of military control. Military officers are educated to deal with urgent problems and restore order as quickly as possible. Military regimes may put their own requirements above those of the broader populace, leading to a lack of long-term planning and sustainable growth.
Further, under civilian governance, more people can have a voice in the decision-making process. Since elected officials come from many walks of life and represent all corners of society, voters may rest assured that a wide range of viewpoints will be considered in legislation. More well-rounded and equitable policies that take into account the interests and concerns of all residents are the result of this multiplicity of perspectives.
I contend that civilian authority is always preferable than military control. Democracy, openness, responsibility, and sustainability are all bolstered by this. While military control might keep things running smoothly in the short term, it usually comes at the expense of basic freedoms and long-term progress. On the other side, a more inclusive and just society is the result of civilian government, which ensures that power is spread among elected representatives who are accountable to the people.
