FREE ESSAY ON HOW I SPENT MY INDEPENDENCE DAY HOLIDAY
On the morning of Independence Day, I was awakened by the sound of birds singing outside my window. The sky was a vivid blue and the sun was shining strongly. A buzz of anticipation was already in the air. Independence Day has always been one of my favourite celebrations, and not only because of the fireworks and parties.
It was after a substantial breakfast that I made the decision to start the day by marching in the town parade. I joined my neighbours, all decked up in red, white, and blue, as we marched down the main street, flags aloft, singing patriotic songs. With everyone laughing, cheering, and even throwing confetti here and there, the mood was positively fantastic.
After watching the procession, I went to the local park, where a fair was being conducted. Booths offered everything from hot dogs to cotton candy, and there was even a petting zoo for the youngsters to enjoy. I stayed for a while, eating, playing games, and enjoying the party atmosphere.
At the end of the day, I headed home to get ready for the day’s big attraction: the fireworks. My family and I have an annual backyard BBQ for all of our close friends and neighbours. As we gathered in the backyard, the aroma of hamburgers and corn on the cob cooking on the grill permeated the air. The wonderful cuisine was eaten as we swapped anecdotes and played games.
As night struck, we all piled into the lawn chairs and blankets, gazes directed upward. The fireworks show was beautiful, filling the sky with dazzling hues. T he thundering sounds reverberated through the stillness of the night, and I could make out the children’s wide-eyed surprise.
Feelings of contentment washed over me as the last of the explosions fizzled out. There’s more to Independence Day than simply parades, barbecues, and firework displays. It’s a time for Americans to show their gratitude to the men and women who fought for our liberties by gathering with their neighbours to enjoy a day of celebration. Feelings of gratitude welled up inside of me as I took in the happy expressions on the faces of my loved ones.
There you have it; that’s how I spent my Independence Day. It was a day of celebration and patriotism as well as a day of good times and tasty treats. The following Independence Day couldn’t come soon enough, and I went to sleep that night with a heart full of thankfulness and a mind full of great memories.
