1 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of Study

Over the years, the increase road accidents have been alarming. There has been a number of road accident that has it root to over speeding on all roads. There is no day that past in plateau and especially along Heipang Mangu road that accident have not been recorded. Many of which have it’s attitude to speeding, careless driving or road usage. Many life have been cut short because of the poor usage of our roads, statistics shows that ”FRSC” record a substantial road accident along Mararaban- Jama’a-Langtang road which stands at around 15 number per day. With this increase in numbers of death recorded, if nothing is done to cope with it, our road will turn out to be a death trap for all road users.

Hence the thought to design and implement a speed measurement to alert drivers and all road users of the danger of over speeding.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

The continuous guess to have the problems of man and his growing needs solved has led to the innovation of a speed measuring device to help reduce the rate of over speeding on our roads.

Then, there comes the need for the design and develop of the speed measurement device.

1.3 Scope and Limitation of the Study

This project covers the design and implementation of a speed measurement device using an Ultrasonic Sensor and Arduino Nano which sense the speed of movement from the interval of 2cm to 400cm

1.4 Aim and Objectives of the Study

Due to continuous increase in road accidents and the growing number of deaths as a result of over speeding, the thought to design and implement a speed measurement device to alert drivers and all road users of the dangers of over speeding.

The specific objectives are as follows:

To create a device that detect the speed limit of a car and make an alarm for violation of speed.
To study the design parameter of a speed measurement device using an ultrasonic sensor and Arduino Nano.

To reduce the numbers of road accident on the road

To test the speed measurement device
To analyze speed measurement device

The aim and objective of this project is to design and fabricate a speed measurement device.
