INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
The integration of mobile technologies into education has revolutionized teaching and learning practices globally. Mobile learning (m-learning), defined as the use of mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops to facilitate learning anytime and anywhere, has gained prominence as an innovative instructional strategy (Traxler, 2007). M-learning enables students to access educational content, participate in collaborative learning activities, and engage in self-paced study, thereby increasing the flexibility and reach of education.
In many developing countries, including Nigeria, mobile learning is increasingly seen as a solution to some of the persistent challenges in the educational sector. These challenges include large class sizes, limited instructional time, inadequate textbooks, and uneven teacher availability (Oye, Iahad, & Ab Rashid, 2012). The use of mobile devices allows students to access a wide range of learning resources, including video tutorials, digital textbooks, educational apps, and interactive quizzes, which can supplement traditional classroom instruction.
In Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, the proliferation of smartphones and affordable mobile data has created an enabling environment for mobile learning among senior secondary school students. Schools are experimenting with m-learning approaches to enhance academic performance, improve students’ engagement, and foster self-directed learning (Agbatogun, 2017). Mobile learning aligns with constructivist theories of learning, which emphasize active participation, experiential learning, and the construction of knowledge through interaction with digital resources (Vygotsky, 1978).

Addressing this gap will provide valuable insights for educational planning, resource allocation, and effective integration of mobile learning into secondary school curricula.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
The main objective of this study is to examine the impact of mobile learning on the academic performance of senior secondary school students in selected schools in Abuja, Nigeria. Specific objectives include:

The study also considers factors that may influence the effectiveness of mobile learning, including engagement levels and infrastructural challenges.
1.8 Limitations of the Study
