Parents: “Parents” refers to the primary caregivers or guardians of children, typically the mother and father, who are responsible for making decisions related to the welfare, upbringing, and education of their children. In this study, parents are the key decision-makers in selecting a primary school for their children, and their educational background is the primary factor being examined in relation to school choice.

Educational Background: “Educational background” refers to the highest level of formal education that a person has completed, as well as the quality and nature of the educational experiences they have had. This can include factors such as whether the parent has completed primary, secondary, or tertiary education, as well as the kind of educational institutions they attended. Choice: “Choice” refers to the act of selecting or deciding between different options. In this study, it pertains to the decision-making process that parents undergo when choosing a primary school for their child. This choice could be between various types of schools, such as public or private schools, or schools of different educational philosophies, curricula, or reputations. The study aims to investigate the factors that affect parents’ preferences and decisions in making this important educational choice for their child.

Primary School: “Primary school” refers to the first stage of formal education that children typically attend, usually from ages 5 to 11, before progressing to secondary school. Primary schools focus on the foundational subjects such as literacy, numeracy, and basic sciences, and provide children with the initial academic and social skills they need for further education. In this study, primary school is the level of schooling under consideration for children in the Ado-Odo Ota LGA of Ogun State.

Children: “Children” refers to the young individuals, typically between the ages of 5 and 11, who are in the stage of education being studied—specifically those attending primary school. The focus of the study is on how the educational backgrounds of their parents influence the type of primary school they are enrolled in and how that choice may affect their educational experiences and opportunities.
