INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background to the Study

Among these festivals, Easter and Christmas stand out as the most significant, commemorating the resurrection and birth of Jesus Christrespectively. These two events form the foundation of Christian theology, representing the core doctrines of incarnation and redemption. While Christmas celebrates the coming of Christ into the world, Easter emphasizes His victory over sin and death, making both festivals central to the understanding of Christian faith and salvation.

The concept of faith and belief is fundamental in Christianity and is deeply intertwined with the observance of these festivals. Faith, often described as trust and confidence in God, and belief, as acceptance of doctrinal truths, are essential elements that guide how Christians interpret and celebrate religious events. According to the Bible, faith is the means through which believers receive salvation and experience a relationship with God (Hebrews 11:1). Thus, the celebration of Easter and Christmas is not merely ritualistic but is expected to reflect deep-seated beliefs and convictions about God’s redemptive work.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

1.3 Objectives of the Study

The main objective of this study is to examine the role of faith and belief in the celebration of Christian festivals, using Easter and Christmas as case studies. The specific objectives are to:
