Impact of Extensive Breastfeeding on Children’s Mental Health
Breastfeeding has been shown to strengthen the link between mother and child, which in turn may help the youngster feel more emotionally safe and secure. In the long run, the child’s social and emotional development can benefit from this type of connection.
Breastfeeding has been linked to positive effects on brain development in several studies. According to research published in The Lancet Global Health journal, kids who were breastfed for longer periods of time ended up with higher IQs as adults. This may be because breast milk contains long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are crucial for brain development.
Breastfeeding may also help prevent psychological problems later in life. Children who were nursed for longer times had fewer behavioural and learning issues as school-aged children, according to a research published in the Journal of Paediatrics.
It’s crucial to remember that not every kid will reap these rewards, and that a lot of things can affect a kid’s mental health. Although there are numerous advantages to nursing, it is not the sole strategy to protect a child’s emotional health and development. A kind and encouraging atmosphere, healthy food, and mental challenge also play important roles.
Even while nursing has many positive effects, not all women will want to or be able to do so. women who choose not to breastfeed should not be stigmatised or criticised for their decisions. What matters most is that the baby is loved, cared for, and fed, regardless of whether or not that happens to be through nursing.
