CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Keeping record is very vital in all aspect of life. The record can be on scientific, cultural education. As a matter of fact without keeping good record, many people will encounter difficulties in their day-to-day activities. The accident cases record keeping system contain the information about the accident data to be fill in the form, such as the venue, time, date vehicles type e.t.c. Prior to this project, the record keeping is done manually which is time consumed and cumbersome. Hence the project data warehousing for recording accident cases. It designed to substitute the manual processing and it’s advantageous in order to improve higher quality information.

1.2. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEMS

For new system to be designed there is need to know exactly what is the existing problem. The problem which this project is investing on is to enhance the operation of the accident cases record, to stop all manual operation of the accident cases record that has made work to look cumbersome to the management. This project will help to introduce a proper accident cases record keeping forms.

1.3. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The aims of this study are to examine the feasibility of developing new software (data warehousing for recording Accident cases in order to aid the record exercise).

The objectives are:

(i) To design a software that will provide a comprehensive, flexible and common database for the organization.

(ii) To develop a system that will substitute the manual record keeping processes which is cumbersome, tedious and time consuming.

(iii) To develop a software that will enhance speed and accuracy of records involved.

(iv) To design a program that can provide easy access to data for editing, search and for future reference.

(v) To design a program that can help in providing quality information record keeping, planning, as other management function.

1.4 SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

The study is attempted to analyze the accident cases record keeping concept of the organization and the method of improving the effectiveness and efficiency of keeping accident cases record with the aid of computerization. The study is limited to federal road safety commission office Gusau, Zamfara State.

1.5 DEFINITION OF TERMS:

(i) COMPUTER; Computer is an electronic device or machine under the control of a stored program which can accept data in a prescribed form, process the data and supply the result as information (output) in a specific form.

(ii) COMPUTERIZATION; This is the conversation of a procedure, a process or equipment in which is operated manually to operate automatically.

(iii) SYSTEM; Is a unit organized parts that is made up of many different units but intended parts. They act as a group of integrated element with the common purpose of achieving some objective.

(iv) RECORD; The process of keeping information which are organized and related fields.

(vi) DATABASE; Database is an organization set of data that is stored in a computer and be viewed and used in various ways.

(vii) PROGRAM; Program is a set of instructions sent or given to a computer to perform certain operations.
