• Background to the Study

Scholars have increasingly emphasized the need for a strong spiritual foundation, particularly through religious education. Teaching the Word of God to children is not merely a tradition but a formative practice that helps build moral character, resilience, and identity (Stanton, 2020). The Bible, as a foundational text of Christianity, offers narratives and principles that guide ethical decision-making and promote virtues such as compassion, integrity, and justice.

Studies highlight that early childhood is a critical stage for spiritual development. According to Hay and Nye (2006), children have an innate capacity for spirituality, which can be nurtured through storytelling, reflective practices, and engagement with Scripture. 1.8. Operational Definition of Terms

1. Importance: Importance refers to the value, significance, or impact that something holds. In this context, it highlights how vital and beneficial it is to teach the Word of God to children, especially in shaping their spiritual, moral, emotional, and intellectual development in a rapidly changing world.

2. Teaching: Teaching is the act of imparting knowledge, skills, values, or beliefs to another person, often through instruction, explanation, or demonstration. Here, it specifically refers to the process of guiding children to understand and apply the truths found in the Bible in their everyday lives.

3. Word of God: The Word of God refers to the Bible—the sacred scriptures of the Christian faith—believed to be divinely inspired and authoritative. It includes teachings, commandments, stories, and principles that reveal God’s character, human purpose, and the path to spiritual salvation and moral living.

4. Children: Children are young individuals typically between infancy and adolescence. In this study, they represent the next generation who are in a formative stage of learning and development, both intellectually and spiritually.
