INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study

As education systems evolve, the demands on teachers have increased, requiring them to incorporate innovative approaches to enhance learning outcomes.
In the 21st century, the integration of technology into teaching and learning—commonly referred to as educational technology—has become a critical aspect of instructional practice. Educational technology includes the use of computers, tablets, projectors, interactive whiteboards, educational software, and online learning platforms to support teaching and learning (Hew & Brush, 2007). These tools provide opportunities for teachers to deliver lessons in more engaging and interactive ways, cater to diverse learning styles, and offer immediate feedback to students, which can improve comprehension and retention of knowledge.

Senior secondary schools, in particular, play a critical role in equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in national examinations, tertiary education, and professional careers. Moreover, some teachers may resist using technology due to lack of confidence, fear of technical difficulties, or unfamiliarity with digital tools. These challenges affect the overall impact of educational technology on teaching effectiveness and highlight the need for research to understand the current state of technology adoption.
Investigating the impact of educational technology on teachers’ effectiveness in Ikorodu LGA is crucial for understanding how these tools influence teaching quality, professional development, and student outcomes. The research will investigate the availability and usage of technological tools, the impact on instructional performance, and the challenges teachers face in integrating technology into their teaching. Addressing these issues is critical for improving educational outcomes, guiding policy decisions, and promoting effective technology-enhanced teaching practices in Nigerian secondary schools.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
The main objective of this study is to examine the impact of educational technology on teachers’ effectiveness in senior secondary schools in Ikorodu LGA, Lagos. The specific objectives are:

- To determine the effect of educational technology on teachers’ instructional effectiveness.

1.5 Research Hypothesis
The study will test the following null hypothesis at a 0.05 level of significance:
H₀: Educational technology has no significant impact on teachers’ effectiveness in senior secondary schools in Ikorodu LGA.
H1: Educational technology has significant impact on teachers’ effectiveness in senior secondary schools in Ikorodu LGA.
1.6 Significance of the Study

1.7 Scope of the Study
This study focuses on the impact of educational technology on teachers’ effectiveness in senior secondary schools located in Ikorodu LGA, Lagos State. The study considers both public and private schools and examines the availability, usage, and challenges of educational technology as it relates to teaching performance.
1.7 Operational Definition of Terms
To ensure clarity and consistency, the key terms used in this study are defined operationally as follows:
- Educational Technology: Refers to the use of digital tools, multimedia resources, software applications, and online platforms by teachers to facilitate instruction, improve student engagement, and enhance learning outcomes in senior secondary schools (Hew & Brush, 2007). For this study, it includes tools such as projectors, interactive whiteboards, computers, tablets, and educational software.
- Teachers’ Effectiveness: The ability of teachers to deliver curriculum content efficiently, manage the classroom effectively, engage students in learning activities, and achieve positive learning outcomes. It is measured through classroom performance, lesson delivery, student engagement, and assessment results (Ololube, 2013).
- Senior Secondary Schools: Public or private schools in Nigeria offering the final three years of secondary education (SS1–SS3), where students are prepared for national examinations such as the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
- Instructional Effectiveness: The extent to which teachers achieve desired learning outcomes, including students’ comprehension, participation, and performance, through the use of teaching strategies and educational resources, including technology.
