INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
Education is a critical driver of societal and national development, and the effectiveness of teaching directly impacts student learning outcomes. In recent decades, technological advancements have transformed instructional delivery in classrooms worldwide. One key innovation is the use of interactive digital tools such as interactive whiteboards, smart projectors, simulation software, and online collaborative platforms, which enable teachers to deliver content in dynamic, engaging, and visually stimulating ways (Hew & Brush, 2007; Ololube, 2013). Interactive digital tools facilitate student-centered learning, encourage active participation, and can improve understanding of complex concepts in various subjects (Ertmer & Ottenbreit-Leftwich, 2010).
In Nigeria, public secondary schools are increasingly exposed to digital teaching resources, particularly in urban areas such as Kosofe Local Government Area in Lagos State. Despite this, the adoption of interactive digital tools remains inconsistent due to a combination of infrastructural, pedagogical, and attitudinal factors (Adebayo & Salami, 2020). Teachers’ perceptions toward technology—how they view its usefulness, ease of use, and relevance to instruction—play a crucial role in determining adoption levels (Venkatesh & Davis, 2000). Positive perceptions are associated with higher utilization of technology, whereas negative perceptions or resistance often limit integration.
Research has shown that when teachers adopt interactive digital tools effectively, they can enhance student engagement, improve knowledge retention, and create a more interactive learning environment (Park, 2011; Albirini, 2006). However, challenges such as inadequate ICT infrastructure, insufficient training, and limited technical support continue to constrain the effective adoption of technology in Nigerian secondary schools. Understanding teachers’ perceptions and adoption behaviors in Kosofe LGA is therefore essential to improving instructional quality and informing policy interventions.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While interactive digital tools offer considerable potential to enhance teaching and learning, many public secondary schools in Kosofe LGA still face challenges in adopting these technologies effectively. Despite efforts by the government and educational agencies to introduce digital resources, many teachers continue to rely primarily on traditional teaching methods, such as lecture-based instruction and chalkboard use (Adebayo & Salami, 2020). This limited adoption may be influenced by teachers’ perceptions regarding the usefulness, ease of use, or relevance of interactive digital tools in classroom instruction.
Moreover, inadequate access to digital tools, poor electricity supply, lack of technical support, and insufficient professional development opportunities further constrain the effective integration of technology in instruction (Obi, 2020). Consequently, there is limited empirical evidence on how teachers’ perceptions affect their adoption of interactive digital tools in Kosofe LGA and the extent to which these tools improve instructional delivery and student engagement. Addressing this gap is critical for developing strategies that promote effective technology integration and enhance teaching and learning outcomes in public secondary schools.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
The main objective of this study is to examine teachers’ perceptions and adoption of interactive digital tools in classroom instruction in public secondary schools in Kosofe LGA. The specific objectives are:

To determine teachers’ perceptions regarding the usefulness and relevance of interactive digital tools in classroom instruction.

To assess the level of adoption and frequency of use of interactive digital tools by teachers in public secondary schools.

To identify challenges that affect the adoption of interactive digital tools in classroom teaching.

To examine the relationship between teachers’ perceptions and their adoption of interactive digital tools.
1.4 Research Questions
The study will be guided by the following research questions:

1.5 Research Hypothesis
The study will test the following null hypothesis at a 0.05 level of significance:
H₀: Teachers’ perceptions of interactive digital tools have no significant relationship with their adoption of these tools in public secondary schools in Kosofe LGA.
H₁: Teachers’ perceptions of interactive digital tools have a significant relationship with their adoption of these tools in public secondary schools in Kosofe LGA.
1.6 Significance of the Study
The findings of this study are expected to benefit various stakeholders:

1.7 Operational Definition of Terms

Interactive Digital Tools: Software or hardware technologies used to create interactive instructional experiences, including smartboards, projectors, simulations, and online learning platforms (Hew & Brush, 2007).

Teachers’ Perceptions: Teachers’ beliefs, attitudes, and views regarding the usefulness, relevance, and ease of use of interactive digital tools in classroom instruction (Venkatesh & Davis, 2000).

Adoption: The extent to which teachers utilize interactive digital tools in planning, delivering, and assessing classroom instruction.

Public Secondary Schools: Government-owned secondary schools that provide education to students in grades 10–12 in Kosofe LGA.
